Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff, except in 2 states - Texas and Maryland.  In Texas, Our Flag continues to fly at half-staff to commemorate the life of former Texas Governor Mark White, who served from 1983 to 1987.  And in Maryland, the state's half-staff honors U.S. Navy Petty Officer First Class Xavier Martin who was killed by the USS Fitzgerald ship collision on June 18th.

TODAY'S REMINDER FROM OUR FLAG:
... following the chain of command ...

President Gerald Ford, Nixon's VP, is sworn-in as President by Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger. [public domain image]

On August 9th of 1974, after the resignation of President Nixon, Gerald Ford became our 38th President of the United States - serving from 1974 to 1977.  Thanks to the terms of the 25th Amendment, he ascended from House Minority Leader to President in 9 short months without being elected to either the Vice President or President position - the only one to have ever done that.  President Ford had other firsts as well:  the first Eagle Scout, first college football national champion, and first drafted NFL player to become President.
