TODAY'S FLAG STATUS:

Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff, except in Michigan and New Jersey.  Michigan's half-staff honors Adrian Township Firefighter Allen Charles Howard, who died while on duty.  And, in New Jersey, their state half-staff commemorates KC-130 crash victim Marine Corporal Dan Baldassare.

TODAY'S REMINDER FROM OUR FLAG:
... preserving our Union ...

On this date, July 25, in 1861, the Crittenden–Johnson Resolution was passed.  It stated that the Civil War was, first and foremost, about preserving the Union and our Constitution and not about ending slavery.  Regardless, this proclamation's aim was to keep three, then so called "slave states," Missouri, Kentucky, and Maryland, in the Union.  A year later, Lincoln's real war aim became apparent with the Emancipation Proclamation.

Today, we individually remember and honor, the 12th of 16 service members killed in the KC-130 crash on July 10th, U.S. Marine Raider Sergeant Talon Leach of Callaway, Missouri.  He was designated as a Critical Skills Operator and fought in Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq during his 7-year career.

"A young man gave his life to be the protector of our way of life," said the Callaway County commissioner. "Very few things can compare to someone who has that willingness to give their all."

We thank and honor Sergeant Talon Leach, who leaves behind his wife, Sara, for defending our freedoms at home and abroad.
