Welcome to Flag Steward's Pledge of Allegiance Tribute for the week of May 10th to 16th, National Police Week

We start our tribute by asking ourselves,
"Where, in the United States of America, is Our Flag lowered to half-staff today, May 15th?"
Today, is a National Half-Staff Day - 1 of 5 honored every year.
The U.S. Flag, and all other Flags hoisted (State, County, City, etc.), are Half-Staff from sunrise to sunset, on Friday, May 15, to honor

THIS WEEK'S STORY FROM OUR FLAG:

THIS WEEK'S STORY FROM OUR FLAG:
... tells us about Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day ...
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a law, passed by the U.S. Congress, which set-up Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day. The law stated that every year, on May 15th, America would honor Federal, State, and local law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty (meaning, those who died while working) with a National Half-Staff order for Peace Officers Memorial Day. And, the week that includes May 15th, called Police Week, would celebrate the women and men, the Peace Officers, that work night and day to protect our communities.

So, this Friday, May 15th, lower your U.S. Flag, and tell all your neighbors to do the same, for Peace Officers Memorial Day - one of the most forgotten of the 5 National Half-Staff Days ordered every year.
There are 5 Congress-enacted, President-proclaimed National Half-Staff Days called every year.
They are:
1) Memorial Day on the last Monday in May,
2) Patriot (9/11) Day on September 11th,
3) Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day on the first Sunday in October
4) Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day on December 7, and
5) Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15
Let’s not forget Police Officers Memorial Day anymore!

THIS WEEK'S FALLEN PATRIOTS TO HONOR:
[ Peace Officers' Memorial in Colorado Springs ]
During Police Week, the name of the peace officers, who were killed in the line of duty from the year before (2019), are shown and read aloud during special ceremonies at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C..
So, for this Pledge Tribute, we take time to remember the 178 peace officers who were killed in the line of duty since last year's Peace Officers Memorial Day. Within the 178 officers were 24 female officers and 30 who died from COVID-19. Most of the line of duty deaths are from being shot by criminals or car accidents.

We honor and thank these peace officers for making the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting their communities.
