How did HI get its name?:
The source and history of the state name "Hawaii" is uncertain. Most Hawaiian historians say the name came from "Hawai'iloa" - a Hawaiian mythical figure who was said to have first discovered the islands.

1) Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
- on the Big Island, Hawaii Island, shows you source of the formation of the Hawaiian Islands, hot lava and active volcanoes. The park includes two active volcanoes: 1) Kilauea, one of the world's most lava-flowing volcanoes, and 2) Mauna Loa, the world's largest shield volcano.
