On this date, August 9th of 1974, Richard Nixon's time in office, as the 37th President of the United States of America, ended at 12 noon.
Why? Nixon was was about to be impeached (removed from office) by Congress for his role in the Watergate Scandal - an attempt to cover-up the Nixon staff's involvement in the break-in of the Democratic National Committee HQ during the 1972 Presidential election preparations. So, on August 8, 1974, Nixon, submitted his resignation as President of the United States of America, effective the next day.
In America, justice is promised and usually served to all - including government leaders on rare occasion.
Why?
