How did AR get its name?:
Like many other states across America, the origin of this state's name came from its land and the natives that lived there when it was discovered. Arkansas is defined by the Arkansas River and comes from a French term - Arcansas, the plural term for the Quapaw people who lived in the area.

Notable AR Landmarks and Historic Sites:
1) Hot Springs National Park
- the first land set aside by Congress for recreational use (before the designation of National Parks) is well known for, as it's called, hot springs to bathe in. The entire bathhouse row (pictured below in 1900 public domain image) is now a National Historic District in the town of Hot Springs adjacent to the National Park.

2) Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site
- known as one of the most important civil rights movement locations in America, where in 1957 the army escorted 9 black teenagers to desegregate (bring students of all colors together at) the school

3) Buffalo National River
- the first "National River" designated in the US - which protected it from any industrial (business) uses. It flows 153 miles through northern Arkansas
