On this day, May 27th, in 1933, the US Congress' Securities Act of 1933 became law. This law, put in place as a reaction to the Great Depression and the stock market crash of 1929, required stock (securities) brokers (sellers) to fully explain the risks associated with these investments. It was put in place to prevent fraud (misrepresentations / lies) by the investment sellers. Unfortunately, before this law, many investment brokers put making money before being truthful to their customers.
