How did LA get its name?:
Louisiana was named in honor of the King of France from 1643 to 1715 - King Louis XIV (14th). It was named by French explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier, in 1682, when he claimed the lower Mississippi River basin (from the Illinois River to the Gulf of Mexico) for France and named it "La Louisiane."

also known as "The Sugar Palace" during the antebellum / plantation days (1790 - start of Civil War), is part of the National Register of Historic Places. It offers small, personal tours of this beautiful plantation and gardens
