How did CT get its name?:

The "land upon the long tidal river," Connecticut, comes from a Native American word,
quonehtacut, spoken by the Mohegan-Pequot tribe, whose people still live in parts of the state.  The long tidal river is the Connecticut River that weaves through the middle of the state.

Notable CT Landmarks and Historic Sites:

1) Mystic Seaport Maritime Museum - displays more than 500 historic ships from the 1700 and 1800s
2) Mark Twain House - where he wrote many of his famous books, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer 
3) Yale University - a private Ivy League university, the 3rd oldest college in America, with a beautiful campus and impressive list of alumni

Did you know this about Connecticut?:

It is home of the oldest library in America, the Scoville Memorial Library, which was established in 1771


The first woman to receive a U.S. patent, Mary Kies of South Killingly, Connecticut, invented a method for weaving straw with silk in 1809.
