VE Day
#NeverForgottenFriday
Where is Our Flag, the U.S. Flag, lowered to half-staff today (May 8)?
There are TWO new half-staffs, each announced this morning.
There is a concurrent half-staff order, that came via email at noon EST for New Jersey, to honor VE Day today. And, in Hawaii, via a 945am local time Twitter post, Hawaii's Governor ordered a half-staff for a former State Representative.
Other Half-Staffs continue ...
... Across Illinois, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey all Flags are half-staff ...
... In Pennsylvania, all STATE Flags are half-staff ...
... And, in Pickaway County, Ohio, Overland Park, Kansas, Houston, Texas, special locations in Massachusetts, Columbia, South Carolina, Washington, D.C. and San Diego, California all Flags are half-staff ...
All of these half-staffs, except in Ohio, Kansas, and Texas, honor coronavirus victims

... VE (Victory in Europe) Day is a reason to celebrate and sadly remember ...
75 years ago today, on May 8, in 1945, Europeans and Americans held massive celebrations for what was called, "VE Day." (aka Victory in Europe Day). The German Nazi forces unconditionally surrendered to the Allied Forces to end World War II in Europe. The world's deadliest war ever was finally over (an estimated 35 - 60 million military and civilians killed worldwide).
Today, the return of peace 75 years ago won't spark parties, but it should make us pause for a moment to remember and honor the estimated 104,812 Americans who were killed in action (KIA) during WWII fighting in Europe (amongst the 450,000+ Americans KIA during all of WWII). The pictures below are a stark reminder of the battles and casualties, many "small" and not recognized, that we had on the road to WWII victory in Europe. Let's make sure they are #NeverForgotten.
