Today's Moment to Remember

... the death of Alfred Nobel and the birth of the Nobel Prize ...
On this date, December 10th, each year, the Nobel Prize is awarded. The Nobel Prize, awarded each year on the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death on December 10, 1896, is given those who have done their best to benefit humankind in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. Alfred Nobel was a Swedish inventor, with 355 patents worldwide, and a businessman with 87 companies around the world. The first Nobel Prizes were awarded in 1901, five years after Nobel’s death, because of his family's disbelief and disagreement over his massive estate being willed to a "prize."
So, why is the, Swedish award being mentioned as part of today's 'Reminders from Our (U.S.) Flag'? Well, more Americans have been awarded the prize than anyone else - 383, nearly 3 times more than the next closest, the United Kingdom with 132. Some interesting American Nobel Prize winners include: Theodore Roosevelt (the first American in 1901 for Peace), Bob Dylan (in 2016 for Literature), and Martin Luther King Jr. (for Peace in 1964)
