On this date, October 7th, in 2001, the U.S. invaded Afghanistan - starting what many call the 'Global War on Terrorism' (GWOT). In retaliation for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on U.S. soil and to keep our homeland better protected from this happening again, the U.S. has been waging war against terror groups around the world for 18 years. During these 18 years of warfare, 7,020 U.S. military personnel have died in GWOT combat zones - from combat and non-combat activities.

On this date, October 7th, in 1916, Coach Heisman led Georgia Tech to the most lopsided victory in college football history over Cumberland. Heisman was seeking revenge for a 22–0 baseball loss to Cumberland in the spring of 1916 by running up the score to 222 to 0 in that fall's football match-up.
