On yesterday's date, October 1, in 1832, Caroline Scott was born in Oxford, Ohio. She went to marry Benjamin Harrison, at 21, in 1853, and became the First Lady of the United State of America in 1889, when Benjamin Harrison was elected as our 23rd President. As the First Lady, Caroline Harrison secured and led major renovations to the White House, put up the first Christmas tree in the White House, and became the first President General of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution upon its founding in 1890. She had a strong interest in history and patriotism.
We will highlight the significance of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a historical preservation society, in 10 days when we celebrate its founding.
