Today's Moment to Remember

On this date, September 4, in 1886, after nearly 30 years of fighting Mexican and United States armies, Geronimo and his remaining warriors surrendered to the US Army's General Nelson Miles in Arizona.  This signalled the last major event of the US - Indian War and the beginning of Geronimo becoming a celebrity of sorts.  Sadly, for the next 20 years, the US Government paraded Geronimo around the country as prisoner of war and warrior-performer and hunter to reinforce its triumph over the Indians. Geronimo died as a prisoner of war in 1909 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

... Pueblo de Los Angeles ...

On this date, September 4, in 1781, America's 2nd largest city, Los Angeles was founded.  44 Spanish settlers established what they called El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora La Reina de los Ángeles (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels) - a great place to raise cattle on expansive 'ranchos'
