[ State Flag for Louisiana ]
On this date, April 30, in 1812, the Territory of Orleans was granted statehood as Louisiana - the 18th State to join the Union.  After looking at their State Flag now I know what their official nickname is the 'Pelican State.'  Better known as the 'Creole State' and 'Bayou State,' Louisiana is the 25th most populated state and is ranked 31st in size (square miles).  Also known as 'The Boot,' much of Louisiana's land was formed from sediment building up from the Mississippi Rivers flow.  The State Capitol building in Baton Rouge is the tallest State Capitol building in the US.
