Today's Moment to Remember
On this 'Military Monday', we recall ...
General MacArthur and the beginning of one of the greatest American comeback stories.
On March 11, 1942, General MacArthur, ready to fight to the death against the Japanese invading the Philippines, reluctantly leaves the islands by order of President Roosevelt. Upon his departure, General MacArthur stated these famous words to the people of the Philippines, "I shall return."
Two-and-a-half years later, on October 20, 1944, General MacArthur got his revenge as he waded ashore the Philippines. He was there to lead his American forces to defeat the armies of Imperial Japan and free the Philippine people from Japanese rule.
