Fellow Flag Stewards -
In case you didn't see yesterday's message...  I apologize for the App and website snafu on Sunday morning.
It appeared the Flag Steward App wasn't working correctly, but it was actually the website.  Thanks to one of our Flag Steward Insiders / Advisors, Russell S., for alerting me to the issue.  I fixed the problem by 10am MST yesterday and have taken steps to ensure it doesn't happen again.  Also, in the app, both the FLAG HONORS button and IAF on AMZN button has been removed. I will need at least another day to update and fix the FLAG HONORS section due to the website DNS problem I had to fix.
Have a good week!
In God We Trust,   -Sean Sweeney

Official U.S. Flag Half-Staffs Today (Jan. 13th):

State Flag Half-Staff Orders:

Other Half-Staff Happenings:  Future alerts and current Citizen-led events
Currently, the following states have fallen peace officers for whom there may be a Governor order to honor them with a half-staff soon.

In ARIZONA, the Governor ordered the US and State Flags to half-staff on Jan. 9th to honor fallen Police Officer Clayton Townsend and will order it again on the day of his interment (funeral / burial) - Tues, Jan. 15th.

In CALIFORNIA, the Governor ordered the US and State Flags, at the California Capitol complex, to half-staff immediately (this AM) to honor Davis PD Officer Corona, who was shot and killed in the line of duty, while assisting with a traffic accident, on Thursday night.  She just became a police officer a few week ago.
[ Note: Click Here to see that the CA Governor did not state the timing of this half-staff ]

In ILLINOIS, the Governor will follow the Illinois Flag Display Act to honor a recently fallen peace officer - on the officer's day of interment and 2 days before it.
And, in ALABAMA, the Governor issued a statement about their recently fallen peace officer, but did not make a flag order.

So, if you see the US and State Flags at businesses and homes at half-staff in AZ, that is who they are honoring.  You're never in the wrong to lower your own US Flag to honor someone, but just be ready to answer for whom you're doing it ;)

OTD, January 14, 1784, the Confederation Congress ratified the 1783 Treaty of Paris.  To be approved 9 states needed to vote for ratification, but it appeared only 7 could make it through the horrific winter weather where the Congress was meeting at the time in Annapolis, Maryland.  Fortunately, at the last moment, 2 more states arrived and approved the treaty.  This ratification of the 1783 Treaty of Paris officially ended the American Revolutionary War and fulfilled the promises of our Declaration of Independence.  We were finally a free country (a sovereign nation)!

A portion of the proclamation sent out to citizens announcing the ratification read as such:
By the United States in Congress assembled, a proclamation : Whereas definitive articles of peace and friendship, between the United States of America and His Britannic Majesty, were concluded and signed at Paris, on the 3rd day of September, 1783 ... we have thought proper by these presents, to notify the premises to all the good citizens of these United States ...  Given under the seal of the United States, witness His Excellency Thomas Mifflin, our president, at Annapolis, this fourteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four...

Today's Slice of Americana - Entertainment
OTD, Jan. 14th in 1952, NBC's long-running morning show, 'Today,' launched. The fifth longest running TV show ever, 'Today,' is the morning news-talk show that began this genre (type) of TV shows.  And, all this 'news-talk' is not hollow - bringing in more than $500 million in advertisement revenues per year ;)-
