for Tuesday, September 25, 2018

[ GO HERE to review and/or perform this week's Pre-Pledge Tribute (PPT) about Gold Star Mother's and Family's.
The PPT is ideally performed on #FlagDayFriday to make Pledge of Allegiance more engaging and meaningful. ]

Today's Star-Spangled Inspiration
... comes from famed US Marine, 2-time Medal of Honor recipient, Smedley Butler referring to today's historical topic - the Bill of Rights ...
"There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights."
Today's Flag Status
Across the USA, Our Flag flies at FULL STAFF.

On this date (OTD), September 25, in 1789, Congress proposed 12 Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.  On December 15, 1791, after more than two years of states reviewing the Amendments for ratification, ten of the 12 were approved as the Bill of Rights.
Today's Slice of Americana
... The first test of America's / the Colonies' Freedom of the Press ...

On this date (OTD), September 25, in 1690, the first American / Colonial multi-page newspaper was printed. It was published in Boston, Massachusetts by publisher Benjamin Harris and printer Richard Pierce.  Unfortunately, it was the one and only publication because the British Governor closed it down due to "reflections of a very high nature;" thereby, forbidding any Colonial freedom of speech.
