In Arizona, the US Flag and AZ state flag are at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today to honor Chief Warrant Officer 3 Taylor J. Galvin, an Arizona native, who passed away on Monday from injuries he received when his helicopter crashed in Sinjar, Iraq. Flags will also be lowered on the day of interment, which has not been set.

Women to Honor Wednesday
... 72 years of perseverance paid off ...
... 72 years of perseverance paid off ...
Straddling between the date of its ratification, August 18, 1920, and it being signed into law, on August 26, 1920, this 'Women to Honor Wednesday' celebrates all the women who politicked for their right to vote - starting with the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention and ending with Senator Aaron Sargent who first introduced the 19th Amendment back in 1878.
The 19th Amendment states:
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
That's right ... It took 41 years, until 1919, before Congress passed the resolution allowing for women to vote and sent the Amendment to the states for ratification.
Needing 3/4s of the states to ratify the Amendment, Tennessee was the 36th and final state enabling ratificationy the 19th Amendment on August 18, 1920.

Sadly, announced last week were 2 Police Officer line of duty deaths.
FBI Agent Brian Crews died of cancer that developed from him helping with search and rescue efforts at the World Trade Center after its 9/11 attack back in 2001.
And, Detroit Police Officer Fadi Shukur was killed when a car ran him over as he provided crowd control outside a late night bar.
