Today's Medal of Honor Moment

On this date (OTD), August 13, in 1952, U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman John Kilmer of Houston, Texas, displayed extraordinary heroism while serving in the 1st Marine Division battling North Koreans.
While Corpsman Kilmer was supporting a Marine rifle company engaged in heavy fighting he repeatedly braved intense North Korean mortar, artillery, and sniper fire to move from one position to another, administering aid to the wounded, and hurrying their evacuation. Despite being painfully wounded by mortar fragments, Kilmer continued to inch his way to the side of a stricken Marine through a hail of enemy shells falling around him. Undaunted, Kilmer skillfully administered first aid to his comrade and, when another barrage of mortar fire came down on them, he unhesitatingly shielded the wounded Marine with his body, becoming mortally wounded. Kilmer's gallant spirit of self-sacrifice in saving the life of a comrade, served to inspire all who observed him. He gallantly gave his life for another.
For risking his life above and beyond the call of duty, Hospital Corpsman John Kilmer received the Medal of Honor posthumously.

On August 12, 1990, Sue Hendrickson and her team discovered the world's most complete T-Rex in South Dakota. It now stands on display in Chicago's Field Museum of
Natural History, and of course, is called "Sue."
