PURPLE HEART DAY
[ GO HERE to perform this week's Pre-Pledge Tribute (PPT) - ideally done on #FlagDayFriday to make Pledge of Allegiance more engaging and meaningful. ]

Today's Star-Spangled Inspiration
... comes from the dad of KIA Marine Cpl Max Donahue - today's Interactive American Flag honoree ...
"He (Max) hated bullies.  If you were with Max you wouldn't get picked on."
By virtue of this quote, we can sense Max's duty to 'serve and protect' started as a kid and carried on to his career as MP for the Marine Corps.

Today's Flag Status
Our Flag flies at full staff across the USA, except in Wisconsin.

In Wisconsin, the US and State Flags fly at half-staff to honor former State Senator Mike Ellis.

Purple Heart Day

OTD, August 7th of 1782, Continental Army General George Washington, established the 'Badge of Military Merit.'  This military award was to be given to all soldier ranks because General Washington said, "the road to glory in a patriot army and a free country is ... open to all."
This 'Badge of Military Merit' was then redesigned and renamed the 'Purple Heart' in 1932 to celebrate George Washington's 200th birthday.
The 'Purple Heart' is the oldest military decoration and is awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving in battle.  It is strictly a combat decoration and is celebrated nationally every August 7th - Purple Heart Day.
