by relaying a fitting quote from Samuel Adams
by relaying a fitting quote from Samuel Adams
"Among the natural rights of the colonists are these: First a right to life, secondly to liberty, and thirdly to property; together with the right to defend them in the best manner they can."
-Samuel Adams
Sam Adams really believed in fighting for America's rights and freedom. On April 30, 1776, Samuel Adams wrote a letter to fellow revolutionary Reverend Samuel Cooper. In the letter he expressed hope for another battle with the British because he believed, "One battle would do more towards a Declaration of Independence than a long chain of conclusive arguments in a provincial convention or the Continental Congress.”
Strangely enough, the pen struck before the next big battle, as the drafts of the Declaration of Independence were begun about 6 weeks later.

Today's (bizarre) Slice of Americana
America's fascination with sports isn't all about entertainment. It's business - big American business.
On this date, May 1, 1969, Leonard Tose bought the NFL Philadelphia Eagles for $16,155,000. 25 years later, the current owner, Jeffrey Lurie, bought the team on May 6, 1994 for $195 million. And, now, nearly another 25 years later, unbelievably, the 2018 Super Bowl champions are worth an estimated $2.4 billion.
