Flag Steward - Honors and Awakens Our Flag to Inform and Inspire Citizens

by relaying a little known story about Lincoln and his love for Our Flag
While on a train trip to his first inauguration, Lincoln took time at a number of stations to give a speech to supportive citizens. During a stop in Lafayette, Indiana, Lincoln spoke about Our Flag and what it represents in terms that still ring loud and true today:
“Fellow citizens while some of us may differ in political opinions, still we are all united in one feeling for the Union. We all believe in the maintenance of the Union, of every star and every stripe of the glorious flag….Upon the union of the States, there shall be between us no difference.”

Today's (bizarre) Slice of Americana
During this week in 1931, on April 26th to be exact, Lou Gehrig got called out while running the bases after hitting a Home Run.
What?! How could that be?
Strangely, Gehrig passed another base runner and was called "out" because of it. By season's end, this lost Home Run cost him the American League Home Run title, as he tied Babe Ruth for the top season total.
