Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff in all 50 states (* see note below for MD).
[* NOTE: In Maryland, Governor Larry Hogan ordered the Maryland State Flag be lowered to half-staff effective immediately and returned to full-staff at sunset on the day of interment (date unknown). This action is in honor of Corporal Mu
jahid Ramzziddi of the Prince George's County Police Department, who died in the line of duty on February 21, 2018.]

The Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag to Inform and Inspire Patriotic Citizens
On this date, February 22nd, in 1956, the Montgomery bus boycott ended. This protest came to the forefront after Rosa Parks was arrested for not sitting in the "Colored" section of the bus - separating white citizens from citizens of other skin color. For 3 months, 80 African Americans, including Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, had protested against the segregated (unfair and discriminatory) bus system in Montgomery, AL. By the end of 1956, this protest, turned into a court case, went all the way up to the Supreme Court for a decision. The Supreme Court decided that the segregated (separate seating for whites from people of other skin colors) bus seating was illegal. They told Montgomery's busing system it must allow riders to sit in any row they want. This signified America's march towards becoming truly fulfilling "with liberty and justice for all."
And, today's 'Slice of Americana' serves up ...
On this date, February 22nd, in 1980, Team USA upset the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - essentially Russia today) in the Winter Olympics gold medal game. The 4-3 victory was such a huge, unbelievable upset that it became known as the 'Miracle on Ice.'
38 years later this Team USA victory is still considered one of the greatest upsets ever.
