On this date, November 22, in 1963, as President John F. Kennedy's motorcade moved through downtown Dallas, JFK was assassinated (shot and killed).  After being shot in the back and then in the head, he was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital where fifteen doctors tried to save him. Unfortunately, he didn't survive and was pronounced dead. About an hour later, Vice President, Lyndon B. Johnson, aboard Air Force One, was sworn in as the 36th President.

A did you know: ... John F. Kennedy was a Veteran.  He served in the Navy during World War II and received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained while commanding a "PT" (motorized torpedo) boat fighting Japanese ships in the Pacific.  He was also awarded the Navy-Marine Corps medal for his heroism displayed against Japanese combat vessels.
