The Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag ... to Inform and Inspire Citizens about ...
TODAY'S FLAG STATUS:
Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff, except in Kansas and Tennessee. In KS, the half-staff is to honor former Kansas Senate President Paul "Bud" Burke. And, Tennessee's half-staff honors U.S. Army Staff Sergeant William Turner, who was a WWII B-29 bomber crew member whose remains were recently identified and brought home for a proper burial.

TODAY'S REMINDER FROM OUR FLAG:
What should citizens do during a ceremony that hoists or lowers Our Flag or when Our Flag passes by in a parade?
Should they...
1) act like they don't see it?
or
2) stop and stand quietly?
#2 is a good start, but the full request of Our Flag Code is...
per
Title 4, United States Code, Chapter 1
(first written at the National Flag Conference on June 14&15, 1923)
§ 9. Conduct during hoisting, lowering or passing of flag
During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the flag or when the flag is passing in a parade or in review, those present in uniform should render the military salute.
Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute.
All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart.
Citizens of other countries should stand at attention.
All such conduct toward the flag in a moving column should be rendered at the moment the flag passes.

TODAY'S FALLEN SERVICE MEMBERS COMMEMORATION
Unfortunately, it appears we'll have 15 fallen service members' sacrifice and lives to honor soon. The search for the missing 5 crew members of the U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter that crashed in the waters off Hawaii has been called off. And, in Singapore, divers have found some of the 10 missing sailors dead inside the berthing compartment that was struck and flooded during a ship collision. When the names of these soldiers and sailors are released, we'll commemorate them.

[August 22, 1851 – The schooner "America" won the Royal Yacht Squadron race around the Isle of Wright in England [left picture]. For that victory it received the "Auld mug" [center picture] - the oldest international sporting trophy.
