U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Erickson H. Petty
Died on May 3, 2004 while serving as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom
Staff Sergeant Petty, age 28, of Fort Gibson, OK; was assigned to the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Division in Baumholder, Germany.
He was killed by small arms fire in Salman al Habb, Iraq.
We honor and thank U.S. Army SSG Petty for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.
Erickson motivated his fellow soldiers:
One of his teammates said this about SSG Petty, “He never complained. He never showed the slightest bit of fear. He was the bravest man I have ever known.”

The U.S. flag covering Petty’s casket was folded tightly into a triangle and presented to a weeping Kim Petty. His Bronze Star, Purple Heart and two Army Commendation medals were placed with the flag in a triangular box.
